Spine Hospital awards and accolades are a direct reflection of the quality of service we constantly aim to achieve for our patients.
The Spine Hospital of Louisiana is one of a few hospitals in the region that receives the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award each year. The award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience. The Spine Hospital’s patient satisfaction scores have ranked in the TOP 5% NATIONALLY for medical practices TEN times (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) in our hospital’s 15 year history.
The Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in healthcare, and is given out based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, a federal survey administered to a random sample of adult patients after discharge. The survey contains a series of questions about critical aspects of a patients’ hospital experiences (communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and would they recommend the hospital.)
The Spine Hospital of Louisiana is a seven-time recipient of the Louisiana Nurses Foundation’s “Hospital of the Year” Nightingale Award (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023). The annual award and ceremony hosted by Louisiana’s largest nurses’ organization recognizes excellence in nursing and patient care. Award Winners in all categories were selected by a panel of judges from outside Louisiana.

The Spine Hospital has earned the highest possible federal hospital rating for Patient Experience every year since the government star rating system first launched in 2015. (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) The five-star rating consistently granted to The Spine Hospital of Louisiana is based on the CMS’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provider and System (HCAHPS) survey and data collected each year. The standardized survey asks discharged patients a series of questions about their recent hospital stay, including core questions about critical aspects of patients’ hospital experiences. HCAHPS Star Ratings then summarize the results of this survey to make it easier for consumers to use the information when choosing a healthcare provider. Hospitals across the nation are given a star rating ranging between 1 (lowest) and 5 (highest).
Spine Hospital survey respondents pointed specifically to the hospital’s exceptional nurse communication, staff responsiveness, and care transition performance when evaluating their individual patient experience. Nearly 100% of respondents said they would recommend The Spine Hospital to family and friends.
Top in the nation for providing excellence in patient safety by preventing infections, medical errors, and other preventable complications
Top in the nation for overall patient experience based on nine measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions
Superior clinical outcomes in back and neck surgeries and spinal fusion procedures
Accreditation is given to laboratories that apply the highest standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. The Excellence Award is achieved only by COLA accredited laboratories that are found to be compliant with all COLA essential and required criteria during their on-site survey. Award recipients must have also demonstrated successful proficiency testing for the prior three testing events and have no substantiated complaints against the laboratory.

Every year, the LAMMICO Patient Safety Award and Grant recognizes major achievements by regional hospitals and facilities to improve patient safety and healthcare quality. This is consistent with LAMMICO’s ongoing efforts to mitigate liability through education, assessment, and tailored clinical risk management resources. The Spine Hospital of Louisiana has earned the award and grant four times.
