The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center, the state’s leader in spinal surgery and comprehensive pain management, is pleased to announce it has received a perfect five-star rating from the federal government in Patient Experience for the sixth year in a row. Out of 3,478 eligible hospitals across 50 states, The Spine Hospital was one of just 266 U.S. hospitals to receive the top rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In 2020, The Spine Hospital was one of only 2 hospitals in Baton Rouge and 15 hospitals statewide to receive a 5 star rating. 

The five-star rating granted to The Spine Hospital of Louisiana is based on the CMS’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provider and System (HCAHPS) survey and data collected between Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2019. The standardized survey asks discharged patients a series of questions about their recent hospital stay, including core questions about critical aspects of patients’ hospital experiences. HCAHPS Star Ratings then summarize the results of this survey to make it easier for consumers to use the information when choosing a healthcare provider. Hospitals across the nation are given a star rating ranging between 1 (lowest) and 5 (highest). 

Based on the latest patient experience star ratings:

• 85 U.S. hospitals received one star
• 528 U.S. hospitals received two stars
• 1,479 U.S. hospitals received three stars
• 1,120 U.S. hospitals received four stars
• 266 U.S. hospitals including The Spine Hospital of Louisiana received five stars

Survey respondents pointed specifically to the hospital’s exceptional doctor & nurse communication, cleanliness, and care transition performance when evaluating their individual patient experience.

The Spine Hospital has now earned the highest possible hospital rating for Patient Experience every year since the government star rating system first launched in 2015.
