The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center is pleased to announce it has been named a 2017 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey. The award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience. This is the second year in a row (2016 & 2017), third time in the organization’s 13-year history (2014) that The Spine Hospital’s Patient Satisfaction scores have ranked in the TOP 5% NATIONALLY for medical practices. On Thursday, November 2, 2017, The Spine Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, Kim Pettijohn, MSN, RN, CNOR, accepted the award in person at the annual Press Ganey Executive Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in healthcare, and is given out based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, a federal survey administered to a random sample of adult patients after discharge. The survey contains 18 core questions about critical aspects of a patients’ hospital experiences  (communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and would they recommend the hospital). The Spine Hospital is one of 220 hospitals nationwide, one of just 11 in Louisiana, to achieve the 95th percentile consistently, in ALL categories over a 12-month period.
The Spine Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert D. Blair, claims earning the Guardian of Excellence Award in back-to-back years is a tremendous accomplishment, but comes as no surprise based on his team’s unwavering commitment to patient care.  According to one patient who recently underwent spinal surgery at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana, the facility “is more like a resort than a hospital, with caring nurses and good food.”
“The goal of our team is to make each and every patient feel like they are a member of our family,” states Blair.  “The dedication of our team to consistently go above and beyond for each and every patient is like no other.  When we add new team members, we not only consider their clinical skills, but we also make sure they are a good fit as it relates to compassion, people skills and strong references.  Having earned this national distinction three out of the last four years, is a huge win for our patients and community.  We are blessed and thankful to have been chosen by so many, to provide spine and pain management services to the Baton Rouge and surrounding communities.”
This marks the third time in the past four years that SHOLA has earned the prestigious Guardian of Excellence Award.
“We are proud to partner with The Spine Hospital of Louisiana,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “This award is a testament to the organization’s leadership in delivering patient-centered care. By achieving and sustaining this level of excellence, The Spine Hospital continues to demonstrate their commitment to reducing patient suffering and advancing the overall quality of health care.”
