The Spine Hospital of Louisiana Tops National Patient Satisfaction Scores
November 3, 2016 6:18 pm <![CDATA[The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center is pleased to announce it has been named a 2016 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey Associates, Inc. The award is given out annually to honor medical practices that consistently ranked in the TOP 5% NATIONALLY in categories essential to Patient Satisfaction for each reporting period during the course of one full year (May 2015-April 2016). A team of SHOLA representatives accepted the Guardian of Excellence Award in person on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.
The Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in healthcare, and is given out based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, a federal survey administered to a random sample of adult patients after discharge. The survey contains 18 core questions about critical aspects of a patients’ hospital experiences (communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and would they recommend the hospital). The Spine Hospital is one of 232 hospitals nationwide, one of just 14 in Louisiana, to achieve the 95th percentile consistently, in ALL categories over a 12 month period.
The Spine Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert D. Blair, claims the Guardian of Excellence Award is a testament to the entire organization’s unwavering commitment to “raise the bar” when it comes to delivering the ultimate patient experience.
“The employees at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana have truly earned this award,” said Blair. “Their dedication and compassion shown to our patients, somehow making them feel like they are ‘the most important,’ is simply phenomenal. I consider myself very fortunate and privileged to be working with such an outstanding group of people who consistently demonstrate pride in their delivery of patient care. Top 5% again, is quite a distinction. The challenge is to produce these scores ‘consistently’. This is not an average of 12 months, but rather a recurring score.”
This marks the second time in the past 3 years that SHOLA has earned the prestigious Guardian of Excellence Award, and caps off a banner year for the organization. In March 2016, SHOLA was named Hospital of the Year (<60 beds) by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation for the second year in a row. In October 2016, its CEO, Robert D. Blair earned the President’s Award from Physician Hospitals of America (PHA). Other 2016 highlights include becoming the FIRST hospital in the nation to offer the Ultimax™-i FPD multi-purpose X-ray system, and the FIRST hospital on the Gulf Coast to offer LASER spine surgery. The Spine Hospital’s dedication to technology, patient care and quantitative superior outcomes, is an extraordinary value to the Gulf Coast.
