The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center is pleased to announce it has been named a 2019 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey. The award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience.

This is the 4th year in a row (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and 5th time in the organization’s 15-year history (2014) that The Spine Hospital’s patient satisfaction scores have ranked in the TOP 5% NATIONALLY for medical practices. The Spine Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, Kim Pettijohn, MSN, RN, CNOR, along with Director of Marketing, Emily Turner Graham, accepted the award in person during Press Ganey’s annual conference November 18th-20th in Orlando, Florida.

The Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in healthcare, and is given out based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, a federal survey administered to a random sample of adult patients after discharge. The survey contains a series of questions about critical aspects of a patients’ hospital experiences  (communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and would they recommend the hospital.) The Spine Hospital of Louisiana was one of only 255 hospitals nationwide, 13 in Louisiana, and just 3 in Baton Rouge to win the Guardian of Excellence Award by achieving the 95th percentile in all survey categories over a 12-month period.

According The Spine Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert D. Blair, the award represents an important recognition from the industry’s leader in measuring, understanding, and improving the delivery of care. “This team continues to amaze me year after year. It is difficult to express the enormity of my gratitude and respect for this team, facility-wide.  What a wonderful, caring, clean environment they all create for our patients. We may have come home with another trophy, but the trophy belongs to our patients as they will always come first,” said Blair.

“Congratulations to The Spine Hospital for receiving the Guardian of Excellence Award,” said Patrick T. Ryan, Executive Chairman of Press Ganey. “This honor reflects their unwavering commitment to improving the safety, quality, and experience of care. Their hard work and dedication are inspiring, and we are proud to partner with them on our shared mission to reduce patient suffering.”
