The Spine Hospital of Louisiana Lab Survey Yields "Zero Deficiencies"
Marks 12th Consecutive Year of Perfect On-Site Survey
The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center Laboratory under the direction of Medical Director, Dr. Brian W. Webb, has earned another perfect survey from the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) , extending its streak of ZERO survey deficiencies to 12 consecutive years. An on-site survey was conducted and completed at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana on September 30, 2019.
“In today’s world of Healthcare, it is almost impossible to achieve zero deficiencies when being surveyed. Well, our Lab Team has done it, not once, but 12 years straight.” said Robert D. Blair, Chief Executive Officer for The Spine Hospital of Louisiana. “In my 30 years of Healthcare, I have never witnessed such perfection by one department. I commend Dr. Webb, our Laboratory Director, Bonita Newport and the Lab Staff, on this tremendous accomplishment. This recognition is yet another victory for all of our Spine Hospital patients.”
With another perfect laboratory survey under its belt, The Spine Hospital of Louisiana Laboratory is eligible to be awarded the COLA “Laboratory of Excellence Award,” a distinction achieved by the Lab team every year since 2007. The “Laboratory of Excellence” award signifies a laboratory’s commitment to performing quality patient testing and overall laboratory practices. The honor is awarded to COLA laboratories that are found to be compliant with all COLA essential and required criteria at the time of an on-site survey. In addition, award recipients have demonstrated successful proficiency testing for the prior three testing events and have no valid complaints against the laboratory.

COLA accredits almost 8,000 medical laboratories and provides the clinical laboratory with a program of education, consultation, and accreditation. The organization is an independent, non-profit accreditor whose education program and standards enable clinical laboratories and staff to meet U.S. CLIA and other regulatory requirements. COLA is approved by the federal government and sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians – American Society of Internal Medicine and the American Osteopathic Association.
